For most first-time Seoul trips, do not rank Lotte World Aquarium and SEA LIFE COEX as if they were isolated attractions. Put them back into the day you already have. Lotte World Aquarium currently lists general adult/youth admission at KRW 37,000. SEA LIFE COEX lists a regular adult price of KRW 35,000 and an official online adult price from KRW 28,000. COEX therefore looks cheaper on paper, but a lower ticket price stops being useful if it makes you cross Seoul, wait for another train, find another mall entrance and rebuild the rest of your day. The same logic works in reverse: if you are already inside Starfield COEX Mall, there is little reason to travel to Jamsil just because Lotte has a different main-tank experience.
Lotte World, Seoul Sky, Seokchon Lake and Lotte World Mall are already in the same travel cluster. The aquarium can become a midday, rainy-day or evening block without introducing a new district.
Bongeunsa, COEX Mall, Starfield Library, Samseong and eastern Gangnam plans fit naturally around the aquarium. Its current official online admission also undercuts the regular gate price.
If nobody in your group is especially interested in marine life and rain is the only reason you are considering a ticket, rebuild the day around the indoor district you are already using. A paid aquarium is not automatically the best indoor fallback.
30-second decision table: compare district, closing time and the next stop
| Decision factor | Lotte World Aquarium | SEA LIFE COEX, Seoul Aquarium |
|---|---|---|
| Best same-day cluster | Jamsil, Lotte World, Seoul Sky, Seokchon Lake | COEX, Bongeunsa, Samseong, eastern Gangnam |
| Official adult price checked Aug 2026 | KRW 37,000 general adult/youth admission | KRW 35,000 regular; official online adult ticket from KRW 28,000 |
| Current official hours | Lotte Aquarium homepage currently shows 10:00–22:00; recheck the visit date because other tourism listings have not always matched it | Daily 10:00–20:00, last entry 19:00 |
| Evening flexibility | Currently stronger if you want to place the aquarium late in a Jamsil day | Must enter by 19:00; better used earlier in the afternoon or early evening |
| Stroller / mobility logistics | Baby Lounge, alternative non-escalator routing and limited wheelchair rental | Wheelchairs and strollers allowed; elevators available; strollers must be folded on the entrance/exit escalator |
| Same-area bundle | Official Aquarium + Seoul Sky package | Official online adult, couple, family and experience tickets without requiring an observation deck |
| Common mistake | Trying to force Lotte World + Aquarium + Seoul Sky into one exhausting day | Crossing to COEX only because the online ticket looks cheaper |
The cheaper ticket only wins when the route is equally easy
Lotte World Aquarium currently lists adult/youth admission at KRW 37,000 and child/senior admission at KRW 33,000. SEA LIFE COEX lists a KRW 35,000 regular adult ticket, KRW 31,000 regular child ticket, and official online prices from KRW 28,000 for an adult and KRW 25,000 for a child. On price alone, COEX has a clear argument.
But Seoul travel is full of small route costs that never appear in the admission column. A family already spending the day in Jamsil may save more energy by staying inside the Lotte complex than by chasing a lower aquarium ticket elsewhere. A traveler already based south of the Han may get the opposite answer. If your accommodation decision is still open, use the where to stay in Seoul guide to identify which side of the city you will repeatedly return to. That matters more than a one-off ticket difference.
If your trip has several late Jamsil nights, it is also worth comparing a south-east base instead of treating every return to central Seoul as free. Delight Hotel Jamsil is one existing KoriNavi example where the decision is about Songpa routing rather than brand prestige. For a broader hotel shortlist after the area is fixed, move to the Seoul hotels decision page.
If the aquarium sits next to a theme-park day, read the Lotte World one-day itinerary first. If you are still unsure whether the theme park deserves the day at all, use Is Lotte World worth it? before stacking another paid attraction on top.
SEA LIFE COEX is inside Starfield COEX Mall at B1. The official site calls Bongeunsa Station Exit 7 the closest approach, with the mall about a three-minute walk away. Samseong Station on Line 2 also connects into the mall. The value is not simply the aquarium: food, shopping, Starfield Library and Bongeunsa can stay in one geographic block.
If you want an evening aquarium, Lotte currently gives you more room — but recheck the date
Lotte World Aquarium's official homepage currently displays operating hours of 10:00–22:00. This is the source I would use for the present snapshot, but the Chinese master deliberately retained a warning that official/tourism pages have not always been synchronized. Do not turn that uncertainty into a fake universal rule such as “every weekday definitely closes at 22:00.” If the late slot is what makes the day work, check the Lotte page again on the date of travel.
SEA LIFE COEX is more straightforward at the moment: the official opening-hours page lists 10:00–20:00 daily with last entry at 19:00, while also noting that hours can change. Treat 19:00 as the latest point at which you can enter, not as a promise that arriving at 18:59 will produce an unhurried full visit. If the aquarium is one of the main reasons for going to COEX, enter earlier and let dinner or shopping absorb the flexible time afterwards.
With children, “indoors” is not enough: stroller friction, breaks and facilities matter
Both aquariums reduce weather risk compared with an outdoor attraction, but indoor does not mean zero friction. Lotte's official facilities page lists a Baby Lounge with a diaper-changing station, water purifier, microwave, nursing sofa and bottle sterilizer. Its accessibility information also provides alternative routes that avoid escalators and limited free wheelchair rental. For a baby, an older traveler or anyone who needs predictable breaks, those details can matter more than the headline size of a tank.
SEA LIFE COEX states that wheelchairs and strollers can be used throughout the aquarium, with elevators on each floor. Strollers must be folded when using the entrance/exit escalator. The current accessibility page says wheelchair rental is available subject to availability, while the FAQ contains a slightly different unit count; the useful editorial conclusion is simply that rental is limited and should not be treated as guaranteed. Stroller rental itself is handled by COEX Mall, not the aquarium.
If wet-weather last-mile friction is what worries you most, compare that with your hotel return route and the exits you will actually use. A station being geographically close does not mean every stroller or mobility route is equally simple.

Lotte's strongest argument is a complete Jamsil day, not “the more combo tickets, the better”
Lotte World Aquarium is especially easy to overbook because Lotte World, Seoul Sky and the aquarium sit in the same cluster. The official Aquarium + Seoul Sky package currently costs KRW 62,000 for adults and KRW 56,000 for children, and both attractions must be used on the same day. That is a genuine product, but the comparison that matters is not “bundle price versus buying every possible attraction separately.” It is “bundle price versus the two things I genuinely planned to do.”
If you already expect to spend six to ten hours at Lotte World, adding the aquarium and Seoul Sky can turn geographic efficiency into timetable pressure. First settle the theme-park ticket using the Lotte World ticket guide. Then decide whether the aquarium is the main indoor attraction, a weather fallback, or something you can comfortably skip. Being next door does not make it free in time or attention.
COEX wins when the aquarium is one piece of a useful indoor half-day
SEA LIFE COEX sits inside Starfield COEX Mall, so leaving the aquarium does not force you back outdoors or onto another subway line just to eat, shop or sit down. Bongeunsa Station Exit 7 is the closest route cited by the official site, and Samseong Station on Line 2 is another practical access point. This is why COEX is especially effective on bad-weather days or on itineraries with children and older travelers: the whole half-day can stay geographically compact.
Do not simplify that into “COEX is smaller so it is faster.” The useful difference is recoverability. If you finish earlier than expected, there are still things to do in the same mall. If someone gets tired, you can stop without having paid a second transport penalty. If the weather becomes worse, you can stay inside longer without inventing another attraction.
Shows and add-on experiences should shape timing only if you actually care about them
Lotte's current official site lists paid and scheduled programs such as children's veterinary experiences, Secret Tour, Fish Lunchbox and the Shark & Ray Mukbang Show Season 2. The shark-and-ray show is currently listed at 12:30 and 15:30 on Fridays, weekends and Korean public holidays. SEA LIFE COEX currently promotes an underwater mermaid performance, feeds and talks, and a paid glass-bottom boat experience.
Those schedules are dynamic. If a performance is one of the main reasons you are buying the ticket, check the official schedule on the day of travel. If it is not, do not reorganize your whole route around a feed time copied from an old blog post. The aquarium should fit the trip, not the other way around.
Rainy-day choice: pick the aquarium that removes one wet transfer
Both attractions move the main viewing experience indoors, so both are useful during heavy rain, summer heat or winter cold. The harder part is usually before and after the aquarium: hotel to station, transfers, station exit, mall entrance, then the next meal or the return to the hotel.
That makes the rainy-day rule simple. On a Gangnam/COEX day, stay at COEX. On a Jamsil day, stay in Jamsil. If your schedule currently has no south-side anchor at all, do not add a cross-city trip just because one aquarium has a marginally better ticket price or a more impressive review count. Rebuild the day around the indoor district you are already using instead.
For a longer first visit, the 5-day Seoul itinerary helps you cluster south-of-the-river plans into one or two days. If those southern days become numerous enough, use the one Seoul hotel or two bases test before assuming a central hotel is always simpler.
When neither aquarium is worth buying
The third answer is often the most useful one. If your group is only mildly interested in marine life, you already have another expensive ticket that day, you have barely one or two free hours, or rain simply makes you want somewhere warm to eat and sit down, neither aquarium is mandatory.
At COEX, the mall, restaurants and Starfield Library can already solve the “we need to be indoors” problem without another admission fee. In Jamsil, Lotte World Mall and the existing food/retail options can do the same. KoriNavi's decision is not “which aquarium must every Seoul visitor see?” It is “does this trip genuinely need an aquarium block?” If the answer is no, save the time and money for a choice that changes the trip more.

Compare SEA LIFE COEX ticket options for your dateVerdict: choose where you want the day to end, not which aquarium brand sounds better
- Choose Lotte World Aquarium when the day already includes Jamsil, Lotte World, Seoul Sky, Seokchon Lake or Lotte World Mall, and the currently later operating window matters.
- Choose SEA LIFE COEX when the day is built around Gangnam, Samseong, Bongeunsa or COEX, and you want one compact indoor half-day with food and shopping afterwards.
- Choose neither when you are only looking for rain cover, your group has weak aquarium interest, another high-cost attraction already owns the day, or the cross-city trip is more troublesome than the aquarium is valuable.
The biggest hidden cost is not the KRW 2,000–9,000 price gap. It is adding an unnecessary cross-Seoul journey to chase the “better” aquarium. Lock the district first, then buy the ticket.
