The 2026 Busan International Rock Festival runs 2–4 October at Samnak Ecological Park; BIFF begins on 6 October and continues to the 15th. Together they promise music and film in one trip. On the calendar, the real questions are where you wake after the festival, whether you change hotel, and whether the first BIFF screening pulls you east.
This decision changes nights, districts, tickets and the journey home for Hong Kong and Taiwan visitors. Dates are announced; lineups, films, sessions, shuttles, ticket types and hotel prices can still change.
Do not assume you need to attend both events
The rock festival gives an afternoon and evening to Samnak; BIFF may involve several films, venue transfers and returning to the room between sessions. If you want one concert day or only one BIFF film, their proximity does not require locking all of early October into Busan.

5 October is not an empty day
The day between the events is easily labelled free time. In reality it can be sleep, laundry, changing hotel, moving from west Busan to Centum City, a normal dinner, or simply recovery. Add Gamcheon, Haeundae, shopping and a hotel move, and you may spend your energy before BIFF begins.
Keeping the same room removes another address and repack. Moving must remove several later returns during BIFF. Without breathing room, two events become one long commute.
The west and east sides serve different events
Samnak Ecological Park is fixed in the west. BIFF’s rhythm centres on the Cinema Center, Centum City and possibly other cinemas. Proximity is not the only answer, but a base you use several times a day has different value from a west-side room chosen for one festival night.

One BIFF screening rarely justifies moving hotel
If you select one BIFF film after the rock festival and keep a normal Busan itinerary, I would not rush east. Confirm the time, cinema and route home; one trip from the original base may be enough. Another checkout for one film is often worse value than dinner and transport.
Moving east starts to make sense when you have many films, want to rest between them, or use that area for at least two nights. The new room must serve more than one time slot.
If attending both, first decide whether to move on 5 October
The clean version stays west for the rock-festival weekend, uses 5 October only for checkout, lunch and moving east, then opens BIFF on the 6th. The later programme needs enough screenings and evenings to repay the move.
The alternative keeps one balanced base and reserves the 5th for rest. You accept more event-day transport but remove luggage handoffs. Use one Busan base or a Seomyeon–Haeundae split to compare the two calendars and moving cost.
Four nights and six nights produce different hotel answers
With four nights, both events rarely deserve equal priority. The rock festival is 2–4 October, BIFF begins on the 6th, and the 5th is the seam. If you attend one festival day and one film, keep that night visibly free: stay in the same room, move east, repack, or leave Busan. The empty slot answers faster than the event names.
At six nights or more, two serious rock days followed by two film days can make one base inefficient. Do not move for an unreleased screening. Hold cancellable rooms and treat 5 October as the only candidate move day, when no admission time competes with luggage, lunch and a normal dinner.
Arriving by KTX from Seoul is not a free activity slot. Train time, luggage storage and whether you must return to the hotel can reduce the day to transfers. If Busan is one stop in a Korea itinerary, first check whether seven days really hold Seoul, Busan and Jeju.
If your interest depends on one performer, wait for the official daily lineup. Three nights near the festival and one-night attendance are different costs; “I may go” is too early for three non-refundable nights.
Do not lock accommodation before choosing tickets
BIFF screenings, guests and entry rules may change; rock-festival running order, shuttles and ticket types also need official confirmation. Cancellable rooms or an adjustable uncertain night are better than prepaying around unreleased schedules.
Both events need precise tickets, but this page does not choose them. It decides how many Busan nights to keep, whether to split, and which night should carry nothing else.
Luggage and the journey home can undo the neat two-event version
If you return to Seoul after the rock festival, catch a Gimhae flight, or travel with someone who does not want two late nights, staying for BIFF costs more than the map suggests. Departure convenience, luggage storage and where you wake before an early flight come before a second event ticket.
For a Busan flight, use where to stay before an early flight. If departure is from Seoul, count the KTX day separately rather than assuming any train naturally follows an event finish.
Choose the district before opening named hotels
For a rock-festival weekend, prioritise the west side, transport and the post-event return. For several BIFF days, prioritise returning to Centum City/Haeundae between films.
