The regular 2026 Seoul Taekwondo Performances are at Namsangol Hanok Village, while the street performances are at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The official listing currently shows regular performances at 14:00 and 16:00 on 5, 6, 19 and 20 September, and 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 October. DDP has fewer dates: two performances each on 19 September and 9 October. Do not treat both venues as simply “near Dongdaemun” or both as part of a “Myeongdong day”. Where you go after the performance determines whether a hotel location will actually be useful.
Put the exact date and venue into the itinerary first
The Namsangol performances are around Chungmuro. Official information places Chungmuro Station Exit 4 about 307 metres away and warns that the programme may change because of weather or on-site conditions. DDP’s street performances have only the two listed dates. On 19 September in particular, decide which venue you mean; matching 14:00 and 16:00 times do not make the two sites interchangeable.
Check the official Visit Seoul event page for the current date, venue and weather update. It also says finer schedule details will be posted at @seoul.tkd. Keep only the performance you will genuinely attend. Free admission does not make the date optional: if a show is cancelled, a hotel move made only for it may no longer make sense.
For one Namsangol performance, do not rush to move “near the event”
A 14:00 or 16:00 show usually occupies only a small part of the day. If you visit Gyeongbokgung in the morning, Namsangol in the afternoon, then eat around Myeongdong, Euljiro or central Seoul, a Myeongdong-side base can make the day’s finish more natural. That does not mean everyone should move for one show. If you are already staying consecutively in Hongdae, Jongno or another area and continue along the original route afterwards, changing hotels usually adds a luggage task.

DDP is the reason to consider Dongdaemun—but only if you stay on that side afterwards
A DDP performance still takes only one afternoon, so Dongdaemun is not automatically the right base. Put it on the shortlist if you also want dinner, shopping or more time around DDP, Gwangjang Market or Dongdaemun after the show, and you are not crossing to the other side of Seoul early next morning. Then the hotel supports at least two parts of the trip. If you see one 9 October show, return to Hongdae that night, or go to Namsan and Gangnam the next day, moving for this event may save very little.
Once you know that two nights will end in Dongdaemun, compare the exact hotel questions at Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun and Hotel Skypark Kingstown Dongdaemun. Use your dates, party size, beds and cancellation terms. Do not award a hotel extra points merely because an event name is nearby.
If you want two performances in one day, decide what happens between them
The 14:00 and 16:00 sessions at the same venue are not two itinerary badges to collect. Choose one; use the interval for a meal, returning to the room or moving to the next attraction. If you genuinely plan two different venues, reconfirm the official schedule, then map the transfer, dinner and route back. Only then does hotel position have a clear effect.
Do not lock the whole trip into a seemingly central base because you might want both shows. Cancellation, fatigue or a companion wanting only one are ordinary outcomes. A cancellable room is more flexible than letting one uncertain afternoon determine the entire base.
With children, free admission still needs scheduled time
Two afternoon slots can suit a family: there is no dawn start, while lunch, a nap and returning to the room can sit before or after the show. This page cannot promise that a child will watch two sessions or that the venue will suit a long wait. Treat it as a replaceable afternoon activity, not the day’s only mission, so a weather change does not force you to rebuild the hotel plan as well.

If the hotel is booked, use the event to test it—not overturn it
Test three things: can you reach the venue at a comfortable time; will you return to the hotel or continue to dinner; and will you reuse the same side of Seoul the next day? If all three work, keep the hotel. Reconsider only when two consecutive days remain around DDP/Dongdaemun, or when Namsangol is followed by more central-city plans.
If you have not chosen an area, return to where to stay in Seoul and filter by arrival, the fullest day and the latest return. This event page only places one announced afternoon into the trip; it should not replace the base decision for the whole Seoul stay.
An afternoon performance and a late-night concert need different hotel logic
This show is scheduled in the afternoon, unlike a major concert that may end late at night. By itself it rarely justifies staying next to the venue. The useful question is whether it connects cleanly to what comes before and after. A central base can place Namsangol into an afternoon already passing Myeongdong, Euljiro or Jongno. An east-side base can connect DDP with shopping, dinner or another eastern plan. Treating it as a fixed block of roughly two hours is more accurate than making it an all-day base decision.
The distinction affects budget. Paying more near a concert venue can buy certainty after a late finish. Paying more because of a free afternoon performance normally needs a second reason: another day on the same side, a companion who needs to return to the room, or existing dinner and shopping plans there. With only one performance and no second use of the area, the originally convenient hotel is often better.
Weather may change the programme; protect the day, not a seat
The official notice says the programme may change with weather and on-site conditions. That does not mean every show will be cancelled. It means you should retain an afternoon that does not depend on it: if Namsangol is cancelled, continue with the central neighbourhoods or cafés already planned; if DDP is cancelled, do not cross the city again merely because one item disappeared. That substitute is more practical than “change hotel if it rains”.
A cancellable rate is not event-specific insurance. It keeps room to adjust when flights, companions or weather change the trip. If prices are close, retain the flexible option. If the difference affects the whole budget, first confirm that the surrounding days genuinely reuse the area.
When friends split up, choose a base where everyone can regroup that evening
Some may want taekwondo while others prefer DDP design shops, Myeongdong shopping or dinner. You need not force everyone into one session. Decide where to eat afterwards, who returns to the hotel first, and whether anyone must drop things off. A central evening after Namsangol gives the Myeongdong side a second use; a Dongdaemun finish after DDP gives the east-side hotel one.
If everyone heads in different directions, the hotel need not pretend to be everyone’s midpoint. Protect the traveller who must arrive on time or cannot return late, then use the subway or a meeting point for the rest. That is more useful than a vague “good for friends” label.
Before paying, check four boxes instead of guessing
- The exact date and venue I will attend are still in the current official notice.
- If weather cancels it, the day has an alternative that does not require moving hotels.
- Dinner and the route back after the show run in the same direction as the candidate hotel.
- This location does not turn tomorrow’s first stop into an unnecessary cross-city journey.

Choose the venue you will actually attend
One Namsangol performance does not automatically justify moving to Myeongdong. Consider a Dongdaemun base for DDP only when the evening and next morning also stay on that side.
